SumOfUs petition demands Nissan cut ties with W.G. Yates & Sons unless company withdraws bid to construct Trump border wall

PHILADELPHIA -- A new petition from SumOfUs, an international consumer watchdog, is demanding that car manufacturer Nissan cut ties with the building contractor W.G. Yates and Sons unless the company withdraws its bid to construct Donald Trump’s controversial border wall.

SumOfUs argues that a corporation like Nissan has the power to pressure W.G. Yates and Sons based on their past transactions and current relationship, including a $930 million manufacturing plant in Mississippi in 2002. The petition has been signed by nearly 20,000 people.

“As long as W.G. Yates and Sons keep its bid to construct Trump’s racist, xenophobic border wall, Nissan will be complicit, which will severely damage their supposed vision of corporate responsibility ” said SumOfUs campaigner Sijal Nasralla. “That’s why our members are coming together to demand that Nissan utilize its corporate power to convince W.G. Yates and Sons that their pursuit of a useless border wall contract is completely depraved and inhumane.

“In 2018, the Nissan Foundation granted $730,000 to organizations ‘promoting the value of racial, ethnic and cultural diversity,’ including groups such as the Tennessee Immigrant & Refugee Rights Coalition. How could a corporation so adamant about ‘racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity’ do business with a company capable of making this nightmare of a border wall a reality?”
